Biman upset Mohammedan, Abahani return to winning form

A six-wicket haul by Elias Sunny inspired Bangladesh Biman to emerge as giant-killer in the Ispahani Tea Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League outplaying league leader Mohammedan SC by 112 runs in their 3rd super league encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur Tuesday, reports UNB.
National flag carrier Bangladesh Biman made the first upset in the league beating holders Abahani Limited by 29 runs in the first phase and again they forced Abahani Limited to settle for a tie in the last super match.
In the day's other match, defending champions Abahani Limited earned a facile 64 runs victory over their Dhanmondi rivals Kalabagan KC at the Fatullah Stadium.
Despite the day's dismal performance, traditional Mohammedan SC maintained their top slot with 24 points, while Biman collected 21 points and Abahani Limited bagged 23 points, all playing 14 matches each.
Winning the toss at Mirpur Stadium, Biman opened the innings first to score moderate 243 runs for 6 in stipulated 50 overs with Tushar Imran contributing an unconquered 83 runs off 99 balls with seven fours and one six.
Hasanta Fernando (36), Avishek Mitra (34), skipper Sanuar Hossain (30), Mushfiqur Rahim (28) and Zahurul Islam (11) were the major contributors for Biman reaching the double figure.
Nabil Samad and Pakistani International Rana Naved Ul Hasan picked up two wickets each conceding 31 and 58 runs respectively.
In reply, Mohammedan SC were bundled out for 131 runs in just 34.3 overs against devastating bowling by Elias Sunny.
Elias Sunny grabbed six wickets for 36 runs in his 10 overs to hand Mohammedan SC a humiliating defeat and later he was adjudged man of the match.
Only middle order Mahmudullah Riyad (32), one down Aftab Ahmed (28) and lower order Rana Naved Ul Hasan (20) could reach the double digit.
Apart from Elias Sunny's six wicket haul, Mosharaf Hossain, Sharifullah, Tareq Aziz Khan and Shafiul Alam took one wicket apiece.
At the Fatullah Stadium, Abahani Limited, riding on a superb 129-run innings by opener Imrul Kayes, scored 254 runs for all in 49.3 overs after being sent in to bat first.
Imrul Kayes furnished his 131-ball innings with 13 fours and three sixes.
Besides, Pakistani International Abdul Razzak made 76-ball 59 runs featuring six boundaries and two over boundaries and Nasir Hossain scored 25 off 37 balls, including two fours.
Fariduddin Masud, Nazmus Sadat, Enamul Haque Jr and Ariful Haque claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Kalabagan KC were all out for 190 runs in 49.5 overs with former national opener Javed Omar Belim making unbeaten 54 runs off 114 balls with three boundaries.
Stand-in national captain Shakib-Al Hasan captured three wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs while veteran spinner Mohammad Rafique took two wickets for 29 runs.
