Tuesday, 30 September 2008

A three-day summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Scientific, Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) will begin in New Delhi on November 11, a foreign ministry source said Monday, reports BSS.
This will be the second summit of the grouping. It held its first summit in Bangkok in 2004.
The source said heads of state or government of the seven South Asian and South East Asian member countries of the grouping were expected to attend the New Delhi summit.
Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed is likely to lead the Bangladesh delegation.
The summit will be preceded by a foreign ministers meeting of the member countries on November 10. Foreign secretaries of the member states will meet on November 9 to make necessary preparations for the summit.
The summiteers will take stock of the ongoing cooperation among the member countries in different areas including economic and social, the source said.
