BOGURA, Oct 27: Bumper production and fair market price of both the paddy varieties- Bina-7 and BRRI dhan 75- developed by Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) and Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BARI) respectively are giving a hint of boosting economic stability for the poor peasants in Bogura district.
The early paddy varieties are supporting the good number of farmers to recoup flood loss in the region, said farmer Muslim Hossain of Sherpur upazila of the district.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bogura, farmers of the district cultivated Bina-7 on 7,000 hectares of land and BRRI dhan 75 on 12,000 hectares to get financial support during the lean time.
They have already started harvesting the crops from last week whereas they transplanted those in July last and it would continue till next week, the DAE sources added.
The farmers are to spend Tk5,000 to Tk 6,000 to cultivate paddy on a bigha of land and get around Tk 20,000 as profit due to price hike.
The farmers are showing more interest to grow the crops as they could make good profit spending low amount of money.
They have developed a strong desire in their mind to produce more than 20 maunds of rice from a bigha of land, said farmer Shahidul Islam of Dupchanchia upazila.
"I have cultivated Bina-7 paddy on three bighas of land spending around Tk17,000 this season expecting 60 maunds of yield," said farmer Amanullah of Shibganj upazila.
"I have harvested paddy from a bigha of land and got some 17 maunds of yield," he added.
Deputy Director of DAE Md Dulal Hossain said they have provided all sorts of necessary agri inputs to the farmers this season to grow the early paddy varieties.
The farmers took care of the paddy fields following advice of the DAE, he added.
