BINA sesame popular among growers for high yield

GOPALGANJ, July 03: Cultivation of BINA Til-2 is gaining popularity among the farmers of Sadar and Kasiani upazilas in the districts as they find it more profitable.
Enjil Sheikh, a farmer of Boiltali village in Boiltali union under Gopalganj Sadar said, "I am growing the crop on one bigha of land and expecting to make a profit of Tk 10,000.
He said his production cost was around Tk 4,500.
Same farmers in Haridaspur village under Gopalganj Sadar said BINA Til-2 sesame seed is popular among the growers in the area for the high yield.
According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj, a total of 20 hectares of land have been brought under the production of BINA Til-4 sesame cultivation in three upazilas - Gopalganj Sadar, Kasiani and Tungipara - with the production target of 660 tonnes this season.
Rabiul Islam, a scientific officer at BINA Goplaganj Sub-centre, said, "We are trying to supply all necessary agri-inputs to the farmers so that they can grow the item without any hassle."
A good number of growers said many grassroots farmers in the district have attained financial solvency by the commercially cultivating of the oil seeds.
Ramesh Chandra Bramha, deputy director (Agriculture), Gopalganj said sesame cultivation is expanding in the area for high profit.
