Birdem doctors go on work abstention

Wednesday, 16 April 2014

Medical services at Birdem Hospital in the capital remained suspended as the doctors went on work abstention Tuesday morning protesting assault on some physicians by the relatives of a patient who died on Sunday night, reports UNB.
Doctors came out on the road at Shahbagh intersection leaving their works around 8 am and staged demonstration in the area, said Farzan Hasan, a doctor of Birdem.
Later, the demonstrating doctors formed human chain at the Shahbagh intersection, blocking traffic on the street in front of Birdem Hospital from 11 am to 11:30 am.
Dr Farzan Hasan said some angry relatives physically assaulted some duty doctors and vandalised furniture and window panes on the 14th floor of the hospital after the patient died on Sunday night, alleging negligence of duty by the attending doctors.
