Birdem doctors withdraw strike

Agitating doctors of Bangladesh Institute of Research & Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (Birdem) Hospital called off their strike Wednesday afternoon after withdrawal of the police official allegedly involved in the Sunday night’s Birdem incident, according to a news agency.
The doctors have joined their work after Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) ABM Masud Hossain of Dhaka was withdrawn, said Farzan Hasan, a doctor of Birdem.
Masud has been attached to the Police Headquarters amid a strong demand of the Birdem physicians.
Birdem doctors went on an indefinite work abstention Tuesday morning as some angry relatives of a patient physically assaulted some duty doctors and vandalised furniture and windowpanes on the 14th floor of the hospital after the patient died Sunday night, alleging negligence of duty by the attending doctors.
ASP Masud, who is a close relative of the patient, and one personal officer of a former state minister were allegedly involved in the incident.
