Biren urges students to practise extra-curricular activities

State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder urged the students Saturday to practise extra-curricular activities to make them mentally and physically sound for ensuring their active participation in building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh, reports BSS.
Students should be engaged in sports and cultural activities for harmonious development of body, mind and soul to become worthy citizens, he told the inaugural function of Cardiff Bijoy Inter -School Sports and Cultural Fiesta-2014 at the ground of Mohammadpur Government Physical Education College in the city.
Secretary of National Sports Council Sibnath Roy, Principal of Cardiff International School Dhaka GM Nizam Uddin, teachers and former players of national team of both cricket and football, among others, addressed the function.
Alongside academic studies, Mr Sikder said, the authorities of all educational institutions should take steps for practising extra-curricular activities for students to unlock their human potential to become global citizens.
Sports is a wonderful way to enhance image of the country at international level, he said, adding, "We have taken various initiatives to make Bangladesh one of the leading sporting nations to increase its image at global level."
Cardiff International School, Dhaka arranged the daylong Cardiff Bijoy Inter -School Sports and Cultural Fiesta, where around 15 English medium schools in the city participated.
