Birth anniversary of national poet celebrated at Nazrul University

Jatio Kabi Nazrul Islam University at Trishal, Mymenshigh observed the 108th birth anniversary of poet Nazrul at the Nazrul Museum of Trishal, Mymensigh, very recently.
Students of Nazrul University wore colourful dress. Female students adorned their hair with flowers. At first the invited guests took their seats. Then colourful and flamboyant ceremony started after the recitation from the holy Quran . Nazrul Museum was filled with the noise and excitement of the students, teachers and others.
UGC chairman Professor Nazrul Islam said, "Trishal has been a name of World Atlas for a renaissance poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. He did not stay in Trishal for long. This university was established to commemorate his memories." Professor Nazrul said that he was a poet of equality. He told the students to groom and cherish in their mind that Nazrul always exists in everyplace such as campus, hall, canteen, library etc. He said that canteen will be established beside the library. This canteen will be the centre of adda (gossip) where the students and teachers of Bangla, English, and Music will join in adda. Even the VC will also join that adda, he hoped.
VC Dr.M.Shamsur Rahman said, "The poet's memories and write-ups are scattered allover the country. We need to collect them."
Dr.Asraf Siddiqui said, "Nazrul University will be a cultural university of international standard. Many tourists will come if this university can be made a centre of culture".
Md. Hasam Raza, the cultural counselor of Iranian embassy, said, "Nazrul does not exist for any specific nation, but he is for every nation. If we do not cherish the creations of Nazrul, we will not be able to honour him fully." He continued to say that the Iranian nation recalls his creations very reverently. Nazrul is a restless and sweet poet. He has got his valuations and appreciations fully by establishing this cultural university, he opined.
Professsor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq of the Bangla deparment of Dhaka University said that Nazrul was a romantic poet. Nazrul university has opened the door of knowledge for our nation. We have to practice and cherish Nazrul's conscience, philosophy, knowledge and feelings.
The ceremony was directed by Ms. Morzia Akter, a teacher of Bangla department of the university.
After the discussions, Bohurupi Natto Songstha staged the drama "Kobi Pria". Students of Nazrul University performed Nazrul's songs and poems very nicely. The ceremony ended with the poem 'Chal,chal, chal'.
