Friday, 25 January 2008
Biswa Ijtema, the second-largest congregation of Muslims, begins today (Friday) on the bank of Turag River at Tongi with myriad of devotees thronging the vast venue for an annul prayer session, reports UNB.
The government has completed all the Ijtema-related preparations as around a million devotees have already converged on the bank of the Turag, braving severe cold caused by current cold spell, to attend the Biswa Ijtema.
Pandels have been set up on 160-square-acre land at the site on the outskirts of the capital.
Over three million Muslims, including foreigners from 58 countries, are expected to attend the religious programme this year, organised every year by the Tablig-e-Jamaat. And the largest gathering will be concluded during the Akheri Munajat Sunday.
Roads from Biswa Road bus stand to Cherag Ali Market at Tongi will turn into a human sea during the Akheri Munajat (concluding prayer) as hundreds of thousands of devotees will raise their hands seeking blessings of Almighty Allah.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed issued separate messages on the occasion of Biswa Ijtema.
In his message the President termed the great tenets of Islam as the guiding principles for human beings and said Biswa Ijtema played a significant role in rapid dissemination of the Islamic ideals and lessons of the Quran and Sunnah across the globe.
He called upon the countrymen to build their lives "being imbued with the great Islamic ideology and devote themselves to the welfare of the country and also the nation".
The CA in his message stressed the importance of Biswa Ijtema for establishing universal peace and also strengthening unity, solidarity and fraternity in the Muslim world.
