Friday, 14 November 2014
Washington's South-Asia point person Nisha Desai Biswal is coming to Dhaka. A foreign ministry official said that they have been notified about the visit. Her schedule has not been fixed yet, but the US embassy in Dhaka has given an initial schedule, indicating she will be here in last week of this month. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be in Nepal to attend the SAARC Summit on Nov 26 and Nov 27 along with the foreign minister and others. Biswal - the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affair - came to Dhaka late last year. The purpose of Biswal's visit was not clear, but it is assumed she would take stock of the post-election situation in Bangladesh. The US is the single largest export destination for Bangladesh's products, though it suspended the GSP privilege, few of the products used to enjoy. The US and Bangladesh hold regular ‘partnership dialogues' among other engagement, according to bdnews24.com.
