BITEF 2014 starts in Ctg tomorrow

CHITTAGONG, Dec 1: The month-long Bangladesh International Trade and Export Fair (BITEF) 2014 will start on December 3 at the Garib-e-Newaz High School field at Halishahar in the city. The Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CMCCI) is organising the fair, organisers said.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will inaugurate the fair on Wednesday morning while Public Works and Housing Minister Mosharaf Hossain, Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, city mayor M Manjur Alam and local Members of Parliament (MPs) will attend the function as special guests. The fair will continue until December 31.
Convener of the fair and director of CMCCI Aminuzzaman Bhuiyan said this at a press conference in the conference hall of the trade body. He said CMCCI, since its inception, has been playing an important role in expanding and promoting trade, marketing, business and industry, fixing taxes and duties at reasonable rates and creating an investment-friendly atmosphere in the country.
As part of that effort the CMCCI has organised the BITEF in the port city for the first time, he said. He expressed hope that the fair will help the small and medium enterprises in the country to grow.
President of the CMCCI Khalilur Rahman, vice president AM Mahbub Chowdhury, directors Md Abdul Awal, Syed Ahsanul Alam Parvez, Nurul Absar, Abdus Salam, Mohammed Shafiquddin, Dr Mohsin Zillur Karim, Mohammed Mohsin, Liaquat Ali Chowdhury and Md Nurul Alam were present at the press conference.
Kaznova International will be in charge of the event management of the fair.
International buyers of readymade garments (RMG) from the USA, European countries and Japan have been invited to visit the fair and place orders for supply of goods while Iran, Pakistan and Thailand, apart from local industries, will put on display their products.
Chairman of the KDS Group and president of CMCCI Khalilur Rahman said there will be mega pavilions, medium pavilions, standard pavilions, children's zone, banks and insurance stalls, restaurants and a special export zone in the fair on an area of 170,000 square feet.
Seminars and round table discussions on the development of Chittagong and the national economy will be held at the interval of a few days at the fair. A whole time information booth and media centre will provide updates of the fair from morning until 10:00 pm everyday.
