BJMA for Tk 5.0b loans at single digit rate

Bangladesh Jute Mills Association (BJMA) called upon the authorities concerned to provide loans worth Tk 5.0 billion at a single digit interest for purchase of machinery and product diversification.
In a letter, sent to the Prime Minister's Office on May 27, the association also demanded proper implementation of the mandatory Jute Packaging Act immediately.
Their other demands include recognising the jute products as processed agricultural products to get proper facilities and implementation of the Bangladesh Bank directive which was given on September 07, 2014 to the scheduled banks etc.
They also sought bank loan at 7.0 per cent rate of interest and introduction of jute technology department at every technical institute.
According to the association, jute industry earned Tk 61.84 billion during the last fiscal year. Private sector produced 82 per cent of the total jute goods and exported 89 per cent of the same.
