The Bangladesh Jute Spinners Association (BJSA) has hailed the national budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2009-10.
"We praise Finance Minister AMA Muhith for giving emphasis on the areas including social safety-net programmes, agriculture development, poverty alleviation, food security, power generation, development of roads, rail and water communications, port, environment, technology and climate change," said a BJSA press release issued by its Chairmen Ahmed Hossain Friday.
The Association also appreciated the introduction of a new initiative styled 'Private Public Partnership (PPP)' in the budget for the development of the country's infrastructures.
Terming electricity a 'driving-force' of the economy, it said the proposal made in the budget for generating 4000 megawatt (MW) of electricity by 2013 is 'praiseworthy.'
It also mentioned that the proposal on allocating Tk 50-billion stimulus package would help local export sectors face the global recession to some extent.
The Association, however, stressed the need for regular monitoring on the export stations of the vulnerable sectors so that incentive could immediately be provided to them for their survival.
Mentioning that the government had earlier raised the export subsidy on jute goods by 2.5 per cent to 10 per cent, it also urged the government for increasing the export support to 25 per cent.
The country's exports of jute goods have already dropped by around 20 per cent while the productions of the local jute mills also declined by 25 per cent due to the ongoing global meltdown, it added.
