BKB disburses Tk 0.8m under Green Banking

JHENIDAH, April 26: Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) Kaliganj branch disbursed Tk. 0.8 million under Green Banking activities among 16 loanees for production of vermi compost fertilisers at Balarampur village of Kaliganj Upazila in Jhenidah on Wednesday.
Md. Emdadul Haque, General Manager (GM), BKB Kushtia division, attended the loan disbursement programme as chief guest.
Gazi Monowar Hossain, Deputy General Manager (DGM), BKB Jhenidah chief region, presided over the function while Kaliganj branch Manager Md. Abdul Mannan was present there.
Giant mealybugs spotted
Another report says: Panic-causing giant mealybugs insects were found in Shailakupa Upazila headquarter under Jhenidah district on recently (Tuesday).
Shailakupa Upazila Agriculture Officer (UAO) Bijoy  Krishna Halder said, on information, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) officers and a team of journalists visited one reporter Musa's jackfruit and batabi lemon garden at Veterinary Hospital para in the town and after experimenting, were confirmed about the insects lying around 12 trees.
Later, the agriculturists killed some of the insects by spraying high-power pesticides on them without water.
DAE Jhenidah DD Joynul Abedin said effective insecticides are being searched to kill giant mealybugs here. Campaigns will be conducted throughout the district highlighting the harmful sides of the insects, DD added.
