BKB disburses Tk 392.8m loan in B'baria

BRAHMANBARIA, July 10: Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) disbursed Tk 392.8 million (Tk 39.28 crore) during the financial year 2007-2008 among 15295 poor farmers through its 27 branches in eight upazilas of the district.
BKB set a target to disburse Tk 510.00 million (Tk 51.00 crore) last fiscal year. The rate of disbursement was 75 per cent.
The bank has attained a significant success in recovering outstanding loans, particularly classified loans in the same financial year with a collective effort, BKB sources said.
The bank recovered a total of Tk 400.4 million during the period in the region against the target of Tk 412.6 million. The recovery rate was 97 per cent, sources also added.
Loan disbursement sectors included production of paddy, wheat, sugarcane, potato, ginger, turmeric, maize, mustard, chili and vegetables, poverty alleviation, setting up poultry and dairy farms, fish hatchery and agro-based industry along with purchasing modern agro-machinery.
Terming employment generation as the tested means of poverty reduction, Chief Regional Manager of the bank Md Shahidul Islam said, BKB implementing the different loan programmes aimed at developing the life of poor farmers and creating small entrepreneurs for the country's interest.
