BKB fails to recover loan from Khulna farmers

KHULNA, Nov 7: The farmers have become defaulter even before recovering the loss of natural disaster Sidr and Aila. Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) authority failed to recover the loan amount from the affected people. At the same time the farmers have lost their inspiration due to previous losses of Aila and Sidr hit.
Source said that the amount of unpaid loan was Tk 0.12 billion in 5 districts of Khulna division and the bank authority had been filed cases against the farmers to recover the loan. Shrimp and prawn are being cultivated in Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jessore and Narail district of Khulna division. BKB has given loan Tk 2.6 billion among the 42 thousand shrimp and prawn cultivators in five districts to increase export income and inspire cultivation.
Regional Manager of BKB Bagerhat Haran Banarjy said that the amount of unpaid loan was Tk 46.1 million to the 1,942 shrimp cultivators of the district and the bank faces trouble to recover loan through its 20 branches.
Regional Manager of BKB Khulna Md. Sabbir said that the amount of unpaid Tk 27.2 million in the district and Tk 53 million remain unpaid by fish cultivators in Jessore and Narail Districts.
Source said that the target of Tk 1.17 billion has been fixed to distribute in the fisheries sector in 5 districts of the division. Of them Tk 0.36 billion in Khulna, Tk 0.35 billion in Bagerhat, Tk 0.33 billion in Satkhira, Tk 0.10 billion in Jessore and Tk 30 million in Narail district. Around 31 per cent loan has been distributed during the last 4 months of its target.
