BKB to disburse Tk 2.73b agri loan in Barisal

BARISAL, July 23 (BSS): Disbursement of agricultural loan at a minimum interest among the farmers has been progressing fast in the six southern districts of the division.
Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) has fixed a target of disbursement of Taka 2.73 billion (273 crore) through 118 branches of the bank in this region during the current fiscal.
Official sources said the farmers are getting loan for various purposes, including cultivation of Aus, Aman and Boro paddy, wheat, mustard, banana, maize, vegetables, poultry and dairy farming, pisciculture and cow fattening.
Of the total loan, Tk 515 million will be disbursed among the farmers of Barisal district, Taka 418 million in Pirojpur, Tk 566 million in Bhola, Tk 440 million in Barguna, Tk 506 million in Patuakhali and Taka 285 million in Jhalakathi district, the sources added.
General Manager of the bank of this region Masud Alam Khan told the news agency that BKB was first to introduce micro-credit for the benefit of poor, small and marginal farmers.
He also expressed the hope that at least 250 thousand farmers of the region would be benefited following disbursement of the loan.
