BKMEA opens healthcare centre for its workers in N'ganj

Knitwear manufactures Monday introduced first-ever healthcare centre for thousands of their workers in Narayanganj to ensure their sound health.
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) formally inaugurated the modern centre at BSCIC industrial area where nearly 300 apparel plants were located.
As part of BKMEA's initiatives for the welfare of its 0.3 million (three lakh) workers in the area, they set up the centre with four beds from where the poor apparel workers would get free treatment.
BKMEA president Md Fazlul Hoque told the FE that the centre would provide medicare services to the workers with four beds at the initial stage.
The knitwear makers have also fixed a place of 8000 sqf to install a day care centre in the industrial area so that the mother workers could join their workplace after leaving their children in the secure centre without any charge.
Currently, Bangladesh stands third among the global knitwear exporters after China and Turkey.
According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), the export performances of the knit items declined by 9.67 per cent in the July-September period of the current fiscal year compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
