Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) sought Prime Minister's intervention in setting up a 'knit estate' at the newly raised Shantinagar Char in Narayanganj district.
Led by BMKEA President AKM Selim Osman, seven national and 33 Narayanganj-based association/chambers placed the demand to Narayanganj District Commissioner Anisur Rahman Mia on Wednesday noon.
The delegation also includes Narayanganj-3 MP Liakat Hossain Khoka.
The Shantinagar Char measuring around 1000 acres emerged at the confluence of three rivers in between Bandar and Sonargaon thana in Narayanganj district.
In a press statement, BKMEA said all MPs of Narayanganj district, Mayors and elected local government representatives have supported the demand.
They urged the government to set up the estate under the supervision of BSCIC (Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation) or any other local or international reputed organization.
