BLAST so far transacts over Tk 3.1m for arbitration cases

Our CorrespondentbrRAJSHAHI, Sept 9 Rajshahi unit of the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) has so far transacted Tk 3,195,462 for arbitration of cases of which Tk 5,200,000 was disbursed to the beneficiaries through the court.brThe BLAST, Rajshahi unit has also disposed off 2,213 cases from September 1994 to June 2008.brAmong the cases, results of 1,364 cases were found positive, 382 went in disfavour, 382 cases were settled through arbitration and 266 cases were vacated.brBLAST Rajshahi unit coordinator Advocate Abdus Samad revealed its activities and planned in an exchange-of-view meeting held at local GDRC auditorium recently. brChaired by Rajshahi Bar Association President Advocate Mohammad Yeahea, the meeting was attended, among others, by Daily Sonar Desh editor Abul Hossain Malek, Daily Sonali Sangbad editor Liakot Ali, Journalists Mustafizur Rahman Khan, Hasan Millat, Abdus Sabur, SM Saju and Monjuara Khatun.brBLAST Coordinator Ad-vocate Abdus Samad delivered the address of welcome in the meeting. brBLAST sources said from April-08 to June-'08, the unit received 180 cases of which 39 were settled through arbitration, 83 were filed and 56 cases were settled through court. brDuring the same time, Tk 144,500 was transacted for settling cases and Tk 91,399 was disbursed to the beneficiaries.
