Blatant history distortion by Gunday
Wednesday, 26 February 2014
The Hindi movie Gunday (the goons) has created a storm of controversy in Bangladesh as it depicted our glorious history of the Liberation War wrongly. Although most of the Indians think that the Liberation War in 1971 was solely a war between India and Pakistan, in reality it was Bangladeshi people who laid down their lives to liberate our motherland from the oppressing Pakistani rulers.
The movie Gunday is still being shown without any changes although the producer has already apologised to the Bangladeshi people. It is not sufficient. They should make necessary changes to that part of the movie where the history is distorted. Bangladesh's history was distorted not only in Indian movies but also in Indian books and newspapers even before the movie Gunday.
We should get up and bring this matter to the attention of the Indian government. The Bangladesh government has already strongly protested against the portrayal of our Liberation War in Gunday and asked for appropriate measures to be taken to correct the distortion of history.
