Blockade\\\'s 37th day passes \\\'quietly\\\'

FE Report | Thursday, 12 February 2015

The 37th day of indefinite blockade and 108-hour shutdown, enforced by BNP-led 20-Party Alliance, passed off 'rather peacefully' across the country on Wednesday, after separate petrol bomb attacks in Noakhali, Feni and Netrakona on Tuesday night.
No procession or picketing was seen in the capital in support of the hartal-blockade on the day. Presence of motorised vehicles was almost normal on the streets. A large number of law-enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the capital to fend off any trouble.
However, at least 11 people, including a trucker and his helper, suffered burn injuries in separate petrol bomb attacks in Noakhali, Feni and Netrakona.
In Feni's Dagonbhuiya, nine people, including a woman, were burnt, as hartal supporters hurled a petrol bomb at their Noakhali-bound bus at Chironia Bazar on Feni-Noakhali Highway at around 9 pm, said local ASP Saidul Haque.
Badly injured, a woman named Mohsena, 40, was taken to Sadar Hospital, while the rest were taken to Upazila Health Complex, Dr Ashim Saha told the Financial Express.
Of the injured, Monir Hossain, 35, and Milon, 33, from Barura of Comilla, Belal Ahmed, 63, Belal Hosain 60, and Abdus Sobhan, 50, of Companyganj, Noakhali, and Sabuj, 24, of Dagonbhuiya, were identified.
Dr Ashim also informed that a police member named Saidul Haq, 38, was admitted to the hospital, and four splinters were recovered from his body. He was on-duty at a police outpost on Shahidullah Kaisar road in Feni.
Meanwhile, a truck driver named Ashraful, 35, and his helper Sohag, 30, sustained burn injuries after hartal supporters hurled a petrol bomb at their vehicle on Durgapur-Netrakona Highway at Birishiri Bridge in Durgagpur, Netrakona at around 9pm.
