Blood Donor Day today

FE Report | Tuesday, 14 June 2022

The World Blood Donor Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere of the globe today (Tuesday) with the theme 'donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save life.'
The World Health Organisation (WHO) observes the day on June 14 in recognition of the contribution of Australian biologist and physician scientist Karl Landsteiner on his birthday.
Nobel winner Karl discovered first the blood groups of A, B, O and AB.
Apart from the government's programmes, Quantum Foundation has chalked out various programmes to celebrate the day with its donor pools which is highest with 450,000 voluntary blood donors.
A rally with blood donors will be brought out from the National Museum premises at Shahbagh at 10am.
