BLRF for rescue of stranded migrants

FE Report | Monday, 25 May 2015

Bangladesh Labour Rights Forum (BLRF) has demanded rescuing stranded countrymen and taking punitive action against the human traffickers.
They made their demand on Sunday from a human chain formed in front of the city's National Press Club.
CPB leader Ruhin Hossain Prince said government should not go for argument with the Rohingyas and Bangladeshis issue. At first they have to rescue all the stranded people and provide necessary assistance to them.
Shramik Nirapotta Forum coordinator Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed said though international organisations have taken different initiatives, Bangladesh is yet to take effective measures relating to those floating people.
BLRF member secretary Jakir Hossain demanded getting rid of discrimination and unemployment to help stop human trafficking.
BLRF convener Abul Hossain, Readymade Garments Workers Federation president Lovely Iasmin and different workers' leaders, among others, spoke at the human chain.
Meanwhile, some 10 ailing migrant workers have been provided financial assistance for medical treatment by BRAC Migration programme. The workers got Tk 30,000 each for their treatment.
These migrant workers are suffering from various injuries and other physical challenges.
Speakers at the programme said ensuring safety is indeed necessary for migrant workers both at home and in their destination countries.
