Blue panel sweeps DUTA elections

The Blue panel of pro-Awami League and Left-leaning teachers has made a clean sweep of all the executive committee posts in Dhaka University Teachers' Association election.
Prof Shafik Uz Zaman, who conducted the polls, announced the results at the Dhaka University Club Wednesday. The teachers of the White panel supported by the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami have accepted the result.  Of the 1,902 voters, 1,365 put their ballots in, the election commissioner said. Farid Uddin Ahmed, who ran for the president post from the Blue panel, secured 863 votes. Ahmed, an economics teacher, was the president of the outgoing committee, too. His rival Mohammad Akhtar Hossain Khan of soil, water and environment department, got 468 votes. Ahmed said, “The teachers voted for us because we fulfilled the promises made in the last election,”according to a news agency.
