The Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) convened its 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Renaissance Dhaka, Gulshan on Saturday.
The meeting brought together distinguished members, past presidents, and board colleagues, reaffirming BMCCI's position as one of the most vibrant bilateral chambers in Bangladesh, says a press release.
Presiding over the AGM, BMCCI President Mr. Shabbir A Khan delivered his address, projecting the chamber's accomplishments during 2025, while acknowledging the challenges ahead. He emphasized that the AGM is not only a platform to review the past year's activities but also an opportunity to engage directly with members and align the chamber's priorities with their expectations for the future.
The AGM also highlighted BMCCI's significant achievements in bilateral trade and investment. The chamber successfully restored and strengthened relationships with Malaysian counterparts including MATRADE, MIDA, and MDEC, facilitating daily collaboration. A landmark MoU between EPB and MATRADE was signed during MIHAS 2025, creating new opportunities for Bangladeshi exporters. BMCCI also played a pivotal role in advancing the Halal economy, organizing the seminar "Halal Economy 360: Driving Global Growth", and projecting Bangladesh's potential to capture USD 7-8 billion in exports to Malaysia by 2030.
Another milestone was BMCCI's entry into the semiconductor sector, with historic MoUs signed with MIMOS and Advanced Semiconductor Academy (ASEM) in Malaysia. These agreements witnessed by two heads of state marked the first G2B MoUs in 53 years of diplomatic relations and will enable training programs for Bangladeshi engineers in IC design and semiconductor innovation.
Looking ahead, the President announced that BMCCI will celebrate its 25-year anniversary in 2026 with year-long programs and the unveiling of a commemorative logo will take place soon. He reaffirmed the chamber's commitment by stating, "Today, BMCCI stands as one of the top joint chambers in Bangladesh, recognized at home and abroad. With unity and determination, we will continue to overcome challenges and uphold our role as a trusted platform for bilateral cooperation and economic progress."
Secretary General Mr. Md. Motaher Hoshan Khan placed the Annual Activity Report 2025, highlighting all the initiatives that BMCCI had taken this year. During the discussion session, Past Presidents Syed Almas Kabir and Syed Moazzam Hossain praised the chamber's all-out initiative and its current board for taking BMCCI to extraordinary heights, commending the leadership's vision and dedication in strengthening bilateral ties and expanding new frontiers of cooperation. AGM concluded with approval of audited accounts, appointment of auditors for 2026.
