BMDA implementing drinking water supply project in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, May 4: Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) is implementing a huge drinking water supply project in the villages in Nilphamari district. Till now the organisation which was established for the Barendra region installed 10 deep tubewells in different upazilas of the district to supply water in the villages. They are using underground plastic pipes to do so.
While contacted assistant engineer zonal offices BMDA Nilphamari Alamgir Md. Ruhul Islam said only Tk 60 service charge is needed for a family to get drinking water for a month. Beneficiaries of the project include the people of such areas like Khogsabari UP of sadar upazila, Golna UP of Jaldhaka upazila, Khata Modhupur and Botlagari UP of Syedpur upazila, Harinachara UP and Chikonmati UP of Domar upazila, Goyabari UP and Khoga Khoribari UP of Dimla upazila.
A total of 1500 families are enjoying the benefit of pipe water supply project across the district. Sources said some committees were formed named 'Drinking water user committee' in the respective areas.
Established in 1992 BMDA started its activities in three districts of Panchagarh, Thakurgong and Dinajpur and the project was extended to Nilphamari district in the year 2004.
