NILPHAMARI, Apr 07: The Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) is supplying pure drinking water to the village people where arsenic contamination in water is very high.
They installed as many as 10 deep tubewells (DTW) in the district out of which four DTW are in Saidpur upazila, two in Kishorgonj upazila, two in Sadar upazila, and two in Domar upazila. More than 8,000 households are the beneficiaries of the project.
BMDA sources said there is an overhead tank in each of the DTW location to contain water. The water is supplied through underground pipe and the households use tap to avail water.
Sources said there prevails hardship in the availability of water in those areas as water level has gone much below the surface where hand tubewell operation is very troublesome.
The BMDA sources said the organisation is contemplating to increase the facility further in other areas of the district gradually.
