State-run manpower bureau will launch this month finger print recording for foreign jobseekers in Chittagong region, which makes up almost half the country's overseas class, said officials
Officials at the state-run Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) said the new system will be installed on November 17 at the bureau's Chittagong district office.
"We're ready to put in place the system after Eid-ul-Azha," said Nurul Islam, a director with the agency.
He saidChittagong has been selected after Dhaka, because it accounts for nearly 50 per cent of Bangladesh's overseas class that also includes the diaspora community.
The BMET director said for recording finger print, presently, migrant workers from Chittagong region face tremendous problem, because they need to come to the capital to complete the documentation process.
Finger print can now be recorded only in Dhaka.
"For ensuring a hassle-free service for the foreign jobseekers, we are trying to introduce the facility at all the divisional manpower offices gradually," he said adding the next project of finger print system will be launched in Sylhet next month"
According to the BMET the newly introduced centre in Chittagong will be able to record finger print of 2000 overseas job seekers a day through four machines. Besides, 6000 to 7000 people can attend the documentation process in Dhaka centre per day.
Karim Ahmed, an overseas jobseeker coming from Satkhira, said the government should establish finger print recording centre at every DEMO office for reducing botheration of overseas job seekers.
There are 42 DEMO offices under the BMET for directing its activities across the country.
"In absence of the facility at every manpower office, we are forced to come to the capital by spending money and time," said Mr Karim, adding "We cannot record the finger print within a day due to long queues of the candidates always."
The government introduced the finger print system for overseas recruitment in February 2010 for checking illegal migration from the country.
