BNP blames govt for Kamalapur accident

Tuesday, 30 December 2014

BNP alleged that the government’s insincerity, mismanagement and negligence caused Monday’s train-covered van collision inside the Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka killing 6. ‘This fatal accident has again proved that the government has totally failed to ensure the security of people’s lives. Accidents these days have become a routine affair due to their (govt’s) mismanagement,’ said BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He further said, ‘Their (govt) mismanagement, negligence and lack of accountability have reached a worrisome level …now the authorities of service-providing government departments and institutions are unconcerned about their duties which cause regular loss of lives in frequent accidents.’ He came up with the allegations at a press briefing at the party’s central office in the city’s Naya Paltan. He deplored that only two days back a little boy, Jihad, met the tragic end of his life as he fell into a deep water pipe of an abandoned tube-well in Shahjahanpur Railway Colony pump house, also because of the negligence of the authorities concerned. The BNP leader said there is no respite from accidents on roads and rail and waterways due to the utter negligence and carelessness of the government about ensuring public safety. ‘We condemn the government’s inaction in this regard,’ he added, according to a news agency.
