BNP calls daylong hartal in Barisal for Sunday
Thursday, 27 February 2014
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)’s Barisal city unit has called a daylong hartal for Sunday in the southern divisional city and Sadar upazila in protest against what it claimed occupying the polling centres and vote rigging in the upazila (UZ) during the second phase of the UZ polls on Thursday. Earlier, on Thursday morning, BNP said that it had decided to boycott the vote in Barisal Sadar upazila alleging vote rigging by the ruling party activists. Following the decision the opposition party announced the dawn-to-dusk shutdown programme. The announcement was made by BNP central committee organising secretary Mujibur Rahman Sarwar at a press briefing in the divisional headquarters in the afternoon. BNP backed chairman candidate Enayet Hossain Bassu and other 19-party alliance supporters were present at the press briefing held at the residence of Mujibur Rahman, according to a news agency.
