BNP calls hartal in 4 Rajshahi UZs for Wednesday

Local BNP on Tuesday called a day-long hartal in four upazilas (UZs) of Rajshahi district for Wednesday protesting a court order sending central BNP executive committee member Abu Sayeed Chand to jail. Judge Mohammad Sanaullah of the Rajshahi Judicial Magistrate Court sent Chand, also chairman of Charghat upazila parishad, to jail when he surrendered before his court in the morning in four cases filed over attacks on trains and torching of polling stations. BNP leaders and activists staged demonstrations on the court premises protesting the court order from where Charghat upazila BNP vice-president Akbar Hossain Sarker announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal in Charghat and Bagha upazilas for Wednesday. Later, district BNP general secretary Quamrul Monir announced the extension of shutdown to Puthia and Durgapur, according to a news agency.
