BNP calls Sylhet shutdown Dec 1

Wednesday, 23 November 2011

SYLHET, Nov 22 (bdnews24.com): Local BNP has called a dawn-to-dusk general strike in Sylhet on Dec 1 to protest against the agreement signed in India over the Tipaimukh dam and the government's 'keeping silence' over the issue. The decision to enforce the shutdown as part of a seven-day programme came from a meeting of the city and district BNP leaders at Agra Community Centre around 12:30pm on Tuesday, BNP central organising secretary M Ilias Ali told reporters. BNP and its other associate organisations are also scheduled to organise a protest rally from Nov 24 to protest 'government inactiveness' in the deal to build dam on the Borak River that flows into Bangladesh as Surma and Kushiara rivers.
