SIRAJGANJ, Nov 4 (bdnews24.com): Main opposition BNP has compensated the families of seven victims who fell under a train at Sirajganj. Three of them are in Sirajganj and four others in Dhaka.
Each of the three families in Sirajganj was given Tk 0.1 million in cash, by the opposition at a prayer gathering held for the deceased.
On October 11, seven persons died when they were crushed under the Dhaka-bound Dhrutajaan Express from Dinajpur, beside BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's rally at Soyedabad near Bangabandhu Multi-purpose Bridge in the district.
More than hundred train passengers were injured when opposition supporters threw stones at the train and vandalised it before setting it on fire. The mob severely beat up the driver and a guard.
The incident allegedly led some other untoward incidents, including looting, causing a loss worth over Tk 230 million.
A case was filed the same day accusing five central leaders and two other leaders of main opposition party BNP. The High Court has granted six-month interim bail to the seven leaders.
