Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Saturday expressed deep concern over the "incorrect information" about BNP in a textbook of class- IX-X, making a call to present accurate and neutral information and history about the political party to the students by correcting the relevant article in the book, reports BSS.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed made the call at a press conference at party's Naya Paltan office in the city.
He said, on page 73 in the chapter "Political Parties and Election System in Democracy" of the revised and newly printed "Pouranity and Nagorikata" book of class IX-X of the new academic year, it is mentioned that "BNP was born in the cantonment".
Rizvi alleged that BNP is being demeaned through this information.
"We have been observing with deep concern that a deep conspiracy is going on against BNP. Wrong information about BNP is also being inserted in the textbooks of softhearted students," he said.
The BNP Senior Joint Secretary General added, "We want to clearly say that BNP isn't a party born in the cantonment."
"Not as a military administrator or army chief, rather when Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman announced the formation of BNP on September 1, 1978, at a press conference at Dhaka's Ramna Restaurant, he was the elected President of the country," he said, adding, "The information that BNP was formed in the cantonment is nothing but a distortion of history."
Rizvi alleged that Hasina's oligarchs have written about the Bangladesh Awami League (AL) in that same chapter on the same page of the same book that the AL is the largest political party in this country.
