BNP congratulates AL on founding anniversary

Monday, 23 June 2014

Congratulating Bangladesh Awami League on its 65th founding anniversary, BNP  Monday urged the ruling party to return to the path of democracy through holding a fresh election immediately.
“Awami League had been founded with an ideal to establish democracy, but they’ve deviated from this principle. They’ve established a one-party rule in the country through the January-election as they did it in the past,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, according to a news agency.
He further said, “Today is their (AL) founding anniversary… we welcome them on the occasion. We hope Awami League will return to (the path of) democracy through holding an immediate election with the participation of all (parties).”
Fakhrul was talking to reporters after placing wreaths along with the newly elected office bearers of Association of Engineers Bangladesh (AEB) at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
He observed that the January-5 election is a scandalous chapter for Awami League and it has also maligned its political tradition.
