BNP conspiring to spoil election: Amu

CHITTAGONG, Feb 14 (BSS): Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu today said BNP and its allies are hatching conspiracies in various ways for spoiling the next general election.
"Braving conspiracies, the country is moving ahead to sustain democracy and keep up continuation of the constitution," he said.
Criticizing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia for corruption during her five years tenure, Amu said the BNP chief was awarded five years jail for involving in corruption.
The industries minister as chief guest was addressing a memorial meeting on Mohiuddin Chowdhury in the city's GEC convention center this evening.
Amu urged the leaders and workers of AL to remain united to vote for the party again in the next general election through strengthening the hands of Sheikh Hasina.
He paid rich tributes to former three times elected Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation and President of city AL A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury for his outstanding contributions to development and welfare of Chittagong.
Speaking on the occasion City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said the late Mayor turned himself into a politician from the grass-root level and he could not compromise against the interests of Chittagong.
It was Mohiuddin Chowdhury from Chittagong who raised his voice against tragic assassination of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members in 1975, the city mayor added.
"We have many things to learn from the prolonged political legacy of Mohiuddin Chowdhury that he left for the rank and file of AL", Nasir said.
"Chowdhury did a lot for social, cultural, organizational and educational fields in Chittagong during his long political carrier," he added.
Organized by Chittagong city unit AL, the meeting was presided over by its acting President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury.
The memorial meeting was addressed, among others, by late Mohiuddin's eldest son and Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh AL Mohiubul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, AL city unit vice presidents Noyom Uddin Chowdhury, Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, Khurshed Alam Sujan and Altaf Hossain Chowdhury Bachu, city AL treasurer and Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority Abdus Salam, AL city unit Joint Secretaries Reazaul Karim Chowdhury, Badiul Alam, and M A Rashed.
