BNP council will strengthen democracy: AL leaders

Awami League (AL) Deputy Publicity Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil has expressed the hope that BNP would be reformed and emerge stronger with the holding of the council.
“We, on behalf of Awami League, wish all success of the party. We hope the council will help strengthen democracy and re-establish the spirit of the war of independence,” Mr Ukil said in his address at the opening session of the BNP’s fifth council Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.
He is leading a four-member AL delegation to the BNP council at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city, which was inaugurated by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Among others who addressed at the inaugural session were Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, Islami Oikyojote Secretary General Abdul Latif Nezami, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Secretary General Shamim Al Mamun and Khelafat Majlish Chairman Mohammad Ishaq.
