BNP demands arrest of Rab addl DG

BNP on Monday demanded the arrest of Rab additional director general Col Ziaul Ahsan for his reported involvement in extrajudicial killings and making many people, including opposition leaders and activists, disappeared.
“Why step is not taken to arrest Rab additional director general Col Ziaul Ahsan who is the mastermind of extrajudicial killings and accused of making many people, including opposition leaders and activists, disappeared,” said BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
The BNP leader made the demand while addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
Referring to the confessional statements of two Rab officials arrested in connection with the Narayanganj seven-murder case as published in the media, Rizvi said the two confessed to their crimes and mentioned the names of those ordered them to carry out the incident.
He also said the two Rab officials also in their confessional statements mentioned the names of Col Zia and a godfather in connection with the incident.
Replying to a question, Rizvi said it is mysterious that Col Zia and other accused involved in the killings have not been arrested yet. “As a responsible political party, it’s our duty to make people aware of it.”
He alleged that the current government, which assumed office through a farcical election, gradually becoming more desperate, brutal and repressive in fear of losing power, according to UNB.
