BNP demands restoration of general holiday on Nov 7
Sunday, 2 December 2007
BNP Secretary General Khondokar Delwar Hossain expressed shock and concern Saturday at the government decision to cancel the general holiday on the National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7.
He called upon the government to rescind the decision for the sake of national unity.
He said the decision has hurt every patriotic citizen and raised question about the neutrality of the caretaker government, reports UNB.
The National Revolution and Solidarity Day is not for any particular group or party. The day is significant because the nation overcome a critical situation on this day in 1975 through a people-Sepoy revolution that crushed a heinous conspiracy against the nation, stated Delwar in a press release.
He thought that the government decision is tantamount to turning back the wheel of history and the achievement made by the people-Sepoy revolution. It is also undermines the contribution of late President Ziaur Rahman.
