BNP denied permission to hold N\\\'ganj rally

Thursday, 8 May 2014

The Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) has refused the BNP permission to hold a rally. The city has been under the media spotlight after the abduction and killing of NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam, senior lawyer Advocate Chandan Kumar Sarker and five other people on April 27. The BNP has alleged that 310 of its activists were killed and forced into disappearance in the last one year. Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia was expected to attend the May 14 rally in the city. BNP’s Narayanganj unit chief Taimur Alam Khandker said the law and order in Narayanganj had broken down. “Incidents of abductions, murders and enforced disappearances have risen. The BNP chief wants to hold a rally in the backdrop of such incidents,” he said. Khandker moved the city corporation for permission to hold the rally on Bangabandhu Road in front of the city corporation office and sought additional security. NCC Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has said, “It is not possible to give them permission given the current political situation in the city,” according to bdnews24.com.
