BNP enforces dawn-to-dusk hartal today

Tuesday, 30 November 2010

Opposition BNP will enforce countrywide dawn to dusk hartal today (Tuesday) protesting what it said the government failures, misrule and repression on political opponents, reports UNB.
Jamaat, IOJ, BJP - partners of BNP led 4-party alliance - and likeminded parties including Khelafat Majlish, JAGPA, NPP, NDP, NAP, NAP (Bhasani) and Labour Party extended total support to the hartal called by BNP.
The party in its bid to drum up mass support for the hartal Monday carried out mass contacts, held rallies and processions in different parts of the country. This is the third hartal of BNP after June 27 and November 14 hartal against the 23-month old Awami League (AL) government.
BNP claimed that over 1000 workers and leaders were arrested and more than 500 injured by AL activists and police actions across the country ahead of the hartal.
On November 22, BNP announced the November 30 hartal on a number of issues including demanding resolving the crisis of gas-electricity-water, stopping terrorism, tender-manipulation, extortion and land grabbing by the ruling party activists, reduce the price hike of essential items, scrapping anti-national agreements with India and stopping repression on the leaders and workers of the opposition.
