BNP factions clash in Dinajpur before central leaders

An internal clash in the presence of BNP’s central leaders over sitting arrangements at a joint workers’ meeting of the party and its associate bodies left at least 7 people injured in Dinajpur town on Friday. BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman and joint secretary general Mizanur Rahman Minu attended the joint workers’ meeting of the district unit of BNP and its front organizations, held at Dinajpur Lokbhaban on Friday. An altercation took place between the supporters of the party’s district unit general secretary Mukur Chowdhury and Shahriar Akhter Haque Don, nephew of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, around 11:30am over sitting on the podium. Later, the followers of Lutfar Rahman Mintu, another local influential leader, joined the feud. At one stage, the three groups engaged in a clash in the presence of the central leaders. The clashing groups vandalised the stage of the rally and beat up rival factions’ leaders and activists, leaving 7 injured, according to a news agency.
