BNP flays pre-poll transfers

Saturday, 22 March 2014

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) claims that there are ‘specific intentions’ behind shuffling of police officials before the fourth phase of Upazila Parishad elections. Voting in 91 Upazilas of 43 districts will be held  Sunday.
“We want to tell the Election Commission that we will remember the shameless role it has been playing at the behest of the illegal rulers,” BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told a media briefing Saturday.
He said that the government has ‘specific intentions’ behind the shuffling. On Thursday, the home ministry issued transfer orders of six Superintendent of Police (SP)-level officials in Noakhali, Barisal, Jessore, Khulna, Lalmonirhat and Dhaka.
Five Upazilas of Khulna, three of Barisal, one of Noakhali and two of Jessore will have voting during the fourth round of the Upazila polls, according to a news agency.
