BNP for fair inquiry into Rupganj clash
Monday, 25 October 2010
Opposition BNP has demanded a fair and neutral inquiry into Saturday's clash between the public and members of the army in Rupganj over acquisition of land for a housing project of the army, reports UNB.
BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain made the demand at a press briefing at the party's central office Sunday afternoon terming the incident 'unexpected and unfortunate'.
He protested and condemned the statement of Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub Alam Hanif who reportedly blamed the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia for the incident.
Delwar alleged that the government is pushing the army face to face with the people as part of the conspiracy to destroy the army while the ruling party is shifting its liability of misdeeds to the shoulders of the opposition.
He further said as leaders and workers of BNP have been forced to leave home following the recent incidents in Natore and Sirajganj, similarly attempts are being made to harass leaders and workers of the party by filing cases against thousands of people in the Rupganj incident.
