BNP for prompt holding of fresh election

BNP’s National Standing Committee has demanded that the government hand over power to a non-party dispensation to facilitate the prompt holding of a fresh national election.
Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said in a media release Friday that the party’s highest policymaking body raised the demand at a meeting Thursday night, according to a news agency.
The release said: “Parliament formed through the Jan 5 voter-less election amid people’s spontaneous boycott has no validity. The government and Parliament are illegal, immoral and unconstitutional.”
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia presided over the meeting held at her Gulshan office. The resolution said: “The government has turned Bangladesh into a terrorist country through rampant killings, forced disappearance and oppression of opposition leaders and activists, and the destruction of democracy with a sinister motive to exterminate political opponents.”
