Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said the BNP has fallen in deep frustration as it is not getting a proper response from its foreign masters as per its blueprint, reports BSS.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said in a statement that the BNP's conspiracy to boycott the elections has failed due to the new visa policy of the United States. Simultaneously, the United States has issued a strict warning against the BNP's arson and destructive activities to impede elections, he also said.
The AL general secretary said by spending millions of dollars, BNP has hired lobbyist firms to make its foreign masters happy.
"The BNP's conspiracy still continues. As the BNP did not get expected response from its foreign masters, they are now staging new dramas against the government and the Awami League in the light of the new visa policy of the United States," he said.
Quader said in many places, BNP men have been getting involved in internal clashes and putting its responsibility on the government.
Somewhere, BNP men are provoking the ruling Awami League leaders and activists by making ugly slogans and statements against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.
The road transport and bridges minister said the countrymen have not forgotten the terrible misrules of BNP-Jamaat during 2001 to 2006, while hundreds of AL leaders and activists were tortured.
Some 21,000 AL leaders and workers, including Shah AMS Kibria, Ahsan Ullah Master, Manjurul Imam, Mumtaz Uddin were killed, he claimed, mentioning that even the then British High Commissioner in Dhaka, Anwar Chowdhury, was not spared from terrorist attacks.
Quader said children and women were violated by BNP cadres as their family members voted in favour of the boat.
On August 21, 2004, he said, the BNP-Jamaat alliance government tried to eliminate the Awami League by carrying out a hellish grenade attack on an AL rally.
The AL general secretary said due to the continuous development and commendable success achieved under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has reached a prestigious status at global level.
Bangladesh has graduated to a developing country from a least developed one, he added.
