Saturday, 30 October 2010
A senior BNP leader has urged the party's supporters to wage movement for midterm parliamentary elections, reports bdnews24.com.
Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, also a standing committee member, made the call Friday while addressing the inauguration of a peaceful procession on the occasion of the 32nd founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal.
"Midterm elections are the demand of the time to protect the country. The youth should take preparation to call strike, so that the government is compelled to hand over power," he stressed.
Calling Juba Dal as the vanguard of BNP, the former power and energy minister said that former president and the founder of BNP, Ziaur Rahman, had established Juba Dal in this regard.
The procession was brought out at 3.45 pm that passed through Bijoy Nagar, Kakrail, Shantinagar Intersection, Mouchak before ending at Magbazar Intersection around 5 pm.
Standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan, Juba Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and its general secretary Saiful Alam Nirob, vice-president Abdus Salam Azad, joint general-secretary Mortazul Karim Badru, central leader Mamun Hasan, Hamidur Rahman Hamid, SM Jahangir and AKM Mozammel Haque were present at the function.
Juba Dal began its 3-day anniversary programme Thursday, which will end Saturday with a discussion at the Mohanagar Natyamancha in the city.
Juba Dal leaders and activists from different wards of Dhaka and the neighbouring districts attended the procession.
Earlier Thursday, BNP demanded midterm elections, saying that otherwise the government will have to bear all the consequences for its 'failure' to run the country.
