Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the international community has interest in socio-economic development of Bangladesh, not in current politics or BNP’s demand for a fresh election. She was replying to questions from media personnel after her written speech at a press conference at her Ganabhaban residence on Thursday evening. About the threat of BNP for waging a tough movement to oust the current regime, she said, the government showed utmost restraint about their vandalism before Jan 5 election as it was an election time. Playing down BNP’s threat, she said ‘The party has gone to political dustbin.’ Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Awami league, said, her party tried to compromise with BNP in the greater interest of the people of the country though the party is a ‘band of killers’. ‘The party assassinated Bangabandhu and made attempt on my life. How long will you try to make conciliation with the killers of your near and dear ones,’ she asked. ‘Now an elected government is in power. And it’s the duty of an elected government to protect the lives and property of the people,’ she said, adding ‘Let them touch the people and face the consequences,’ according to a news agency.
