BNP hopes for better India ties

Friday, 16 May 2014

The BNP has hoped the new government in Delhi will take initiatives to solve outstanding bilateral issues like the sharing of Teesta waters and the ending of the saga of border killings. Pro-business Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi is set to become India’s next prime minister as the trend of results pointed to an overwhelming victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies. BNP’s acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday congratulated the BJP for winning a majority in the Lok Sabha polls. “We believe this is a victory for democracy,” he said. He said Bangladesh expects that the new government would work to ensure better ties with Bangladesh. Earlier in the day, party chief Khaleda Zia sent greetings to Modi as initial results put the BJP at the top, according to bdnwes24.com.
